St. Luke’s Minority Educational Society registered at Visakhapatnam as non-profitable Christian service organization, founded by Late Rev.Dr. M. Peterson Luke, in response to his high calling, was totally committed to the service of humanity, especially for the poor, sick and the suffering. It was also his desire to provide assistance to empower women from underprivileged, downtrodden, Christian, Muslim, B.C’s, S.C’s, S.T’s and Economically Backward classes of the State and Nation at large by training them as nurses and provide them with placement through campus recruitment globally. Thus, with the intention of training girls in nursing courses, St. Luke’s School of Nursing was started in 1988.
Carrying forward his father’s inspiring legacy, Sri M. Preethum Luke, Secretary and Correspondent, expanded the institution’s academic offerings by establishing St. Luke’s College of Nursing in 2004, introducing a four year graduate nursing programme alongside the General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) course. He pioneered the initiative of partnering with leading corporate hospitals, including Apollo, Pinnacle, Rainbow, and CARE Hospitals, to provide students with advanced clinical training. These collaborations enabled aspiring nurses to gain hands on experience with modern medical technologies, advanced clinical practices, and state of the art surgical equipment, preparing them to excel in today’s dynamic healthcare environment.
Over the years, St. Luke’s has proudly nurtured more than 6,000 nursing professionals, many of whom are serving in leading healthcare organisations across India and around the world.
